Fiber Art Open house in Marion Montana October 4th and October 5th Updated

Mrs. J. Hartry will be hosting the first Flathead Valley open house for  Helena, Montana fiber artist Linda Parker on Tuesday, October 4 and Wednesday, October 5, 2011, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.  This showing will be held at 450 Idaho Hill Road, near Marion. Purchase opportunities will be available.

Oh was this fun fun fun - the lulu dog went on a bear hunt - however I did get the impression she was not terribly excited about the idea.

She definitely had that 'look' of 'why would you do this to a bear?'

Kindle Covers and I-book covers handmade

I'd been playing with make up/travel bags until getting requests for kindle and ibook covers at the Helena farmer's market so here are the first few. Of course they are padded with finished seams, a zipper  and soft cushy insides. I am loving the vintage velvet and the designer fabric.

Liberian Batik Queen size Quilt

I love having fabric from another part of the world to play with, a friend brings me the batiks back from Liberia. I found it interesting to quilt them, the batik is already complete in and of itself, the quilting is an enhancement of the piecing, but in this case the quilting is an enhancement of some one else's art, so for me it is like walking in the foot steps of another person. Who made this batik, what were they thinking and feeling, was it hot and humid or dry, do they make a mess when they work or are they neat and tidy? How do they use so few colors to get such a stunning piece? I want to go to Africa to meet the person who made these batiks.

I have been neglecting my blog all summer, got rid of a million zippers and some fabric. The local Artist Open Studio Tour was this past Saturday so my studio is reasonably cleaned up and I am ready for some new projects. I've completed a few new baskets, bags and have a wonderful batik from Liberia on the quilting machine. A couple of more Farmer's Market Saturday's and then there will be new tutorials.

More Zippers

 A few more zippers, I wish this was all but alas there are even more.

Recently I have been getting ready for the Original Governor's Mansion Secret Garden Tour, trying to stick to a flower theme. Of course I am distracted by my own garden on those very few sunny days we have had. Then there is all that fabric and all those zippers in the garage, so it is time to do a garage sale. Oh and did I mention my studio has way to much stuff in it - some of it is going to the garage sale as well.

Dresden Flowers twist is an old pattern. I of course rarely like to do it the 'traditional' way. This is an easy fun quilt to make, you can add any number of blocks and do any size that strikes your fancy.

May 30th 2011 Lulu loves the snow

My friend Annie opened a coffee shop art gallery in Lincoln last week, so Lulu and I ran some of my work up. This is what we had the opportunity to drive through, seems like we hit snow every trip long or short this last year.

It is the continental divide so maybe not so shocking.
